I have the great fortune of knowing most of my family history, here is a brief summary:

1.   James Drumright-born about 1726-died in Lunenburg county, Va 1756, married Sarah Williams.  They had one son, “William Drumright” born 1748

2.   William2 Drumright, b. 1748, Lunenburg, VA; d. Oct 1828, Mecklenburg, VA.

William Drumright was certainly an American patriot during the Revolutionary War.  The records show that he was appointed as an Ensign in the 2nd battalion of Mecklenburg county Militia October 13, 1777.  He was in the 6th Company commanded by Captain Samuel Marshall who lived near William Drumright.  On the 14 of June 1779, he was promoted to 2nd Lieutenant.  He was later promoted to Captain and made commander of his company.  With his company, he marched alone to Little York (Yorktown) where they joined General Washington’s forces.   In addition to Captain Drumright’s military service, it is recorded that he rendered numerous other services to the cause of his country.  (Found in Public Service Claim of Mecklenburg county)

3. William Claibourn Drumright, JR (William2, James1) was born 1773 in Mecklenburg, VA, and died Aft. Jun 1856 in Mecklenburg,

4. Richard W Drumright (William Claibourn3, William2, James1) was born 1798 in Mecklenburg, VA, and died 1842 in Williamson, TN. (His journal written in 1835 as he lead his family across the Cumberland pass into the Kentucky territory survives today.)

5. Rev Robert James Drumright (Richard W4William Claibourn3, William2, James1) was born 25 Dec 1827 in Mecklenburg, VA, and died 28 Oct 1910 in West Plains, Howell, MO.

Robert James Drumright: Union Pension record #675623 from the National Archives shows he served in Company D, First Arkansas Infantry, for the federal government.  It told details of the gunshot wound in his left thigh.  After the war Robert James moved farther north to West Plains, Missouri because of the bitter feeling of southern sympathizers in the area.  He finally homesteaded on his farm near West Plains, Missouri where he farmed, was a carpenter and mechanic.  Many of the beautiful old homes and cotton gins in that area include his handiwork.  He built the first Court House in West Plains.  He built New Liberty Baptist Church in West Plains and was their first minister.
